Darko Girls Secondary

The Darko Girls Secondary School began in 2014; since that time is has continued to grow with the help of God and supporters. With just a small starter class of 25 girls we have now served over 100 female students from Form 1 to 4. The impact of this is far reaching because a large percentage (75%) of our school population are orphans and they would not have had the opportunity to attend secondary school without the help of Darko. Many students across Kenya upon completion of their primary education dropout of school because there are limited opportunities for them to extend their education. Darko Orphans provides hope and a future for these disadvantaged youths who have started off life without one or both parents.

The school is situated on a spacious and serene compound, ensuring an able and perfect environment for learning. It is a full boarding 8-4-4 girls school with comfortable learning facilities. The school has qualified, experienced and caring staff. This creates a very strong bond between the staff and the students. The school offers students an opportunity to develop their talents in addition to academics. This is through sports, music, poetry and theater.

Darko Girls Secondary school is built using sustainable building principles. Each building is built using stabilized soil blocks; which offers a very sound structure at nominal cost. We also utilize solar panels for electricity and rainwater harvesting  in addition to farming to assist in the food for the students. At Darko we strive to provide our student with the best we can offer. With more support we can do even more!

With the help of our dedicated staff our students are performing well relative to countrywide performance. We are focused on building the whole-child…mentally, spiritually and academically. 2017 marks the first graduating class for the girls’ secondary school.

The school facilities are:

  • A library, known as Jen’s Library of Hope which is supplied with books of all categories. By making maximum use of the facility, we are assured of producing well-rounded persons.
  • A fully equipped computer suite for all course requirements.
  • The school has a very reliable supply of water from a borehole within the compound. The water is stored in 16,000 litre tanks on a 15m water tower. which provides water for the school and surrounding community
  • Cafeteria with kitchen
  • Dormitories for girls with private baths

Our current goal is to build and equip a science laboratory for our students. With your support we can make this a reality and give our students and even greater set of opportunity in the future being exposed to the full spectrum of knowledge across the curriculum.
